The department aims to provide comprehensive and individual care for patients with rheumatic disease. Rheumatologists, here, work closely with patients to identify the problem and design an individualized treatment. As rheumatic diseases affect other organ systems, Rheumatologists also coordinate with other specialists like the Intensive Care Physician, Respiratory Physician, orthopaedic surgeon, physiatrist, Gastroenterologist, Cardiologist, Nephrologist, Neurologist, Ophthalmologist, ENT Specialist etc, to manage the disease comprehensively.

Radiology & Imaging

Global Hospitals' Radiology and Imaging Department serves physicians and patients each day by providing medical imaging services. The Imaging centers strive to offer the highest quality service to referring physicians, and compassionate care and convenience to patients.

The images acquired and their interpretation represent years of experience.

Department of Pulmonology

Global Hospitals' Department for Pulmonology offers integrated multidisciplinary services providing a continuum of care for lungs.

Pulmonology is the sub-specialty of internal medicine and is concerned with diseases of the lungs and bronchial tubes. Many conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), other lung diseases, and heart disease cause breathing problems and other lung disorders. The department supports the prevention and self-management of these chronic conditions.

Patient care and research at the department are closely integrated to provide the best care possible for patients and advance the science of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

Department of Transfusion Medicine

Global Hospitals being a premier tertiary care hospital of India attracts patients from all over the globe. The department of Transfusion Medicine provides blood support to the patients from far away places. The department collects blood on Voluntary and Replacement basis from relative and friends of patients only. Strict donor selection criteria are followed to ensure good health to the donor and quality blood products. Good manufacturing practices and Drug law are strictly adhered to, ensuring quality in all facets of Transfusion services. All necessary precautions are taken to ensure safest possible blood for the patients.

The department also tests blood for Hepatitis B Core Antibodies in addition to the legally mandatory tests to decrease the risk of post transfusion Hepatitis B. The centre is also certified for carrying out test for diagnosis of HIV infections (Elisa and Western Blot Test). A healthy inventory of blood components ensures blood support in emergency situations hence, providing optimal care to the patients. Global Hospital has an active Aphaeresis unit and runs round the clock facilities for Platelet Aphaeresis, Plasma aphaeresis, Lymphocyte Harvesting, Blood and Plasma Exchange.

Molecular Diagnostics and Biomarkers

This laboratory focuses on Sepsis and Allograft rejection.

Molecular Diagnostics: It focuses on developing a comprehensive molecular diagnostic panel for bacterial and fungal sepsis for early diagnosis. Also, the lab is working to develop molecular methods to directly characterize the drug resistance pattern of the pathogen thus reducing the turnaround time for decision-making and treatment.

Biomarkers: In sepsis, the lab focuses on molecules associated with the host response to levels of pathogens like circulating levels of inflammatory markers. The practitioners are working to identify a marker that would help to detect sepsis at early stage in the ICU and would help to monitor patient’s therapeutic response in the ICU.

Long-term graft loss is still a major problem in renal transplantation. The occurrence of acute rejection episodes and impaired response of the patient to anti-rejection therapy can lead to adverse graft outcome in both the short term and the long term. Timely detection and treatment of rejection is therefore, an important goal in the post-transplant surveillance. A combination of both molecular marker(s) and biomarker(s) will be valuable in the management of rejection, reversibility of the rejection by therapy, absence of the rejection, long-term graft outcome and tolerance.

The lab is also working on non-invasive prognostic biomarkers of allograft status. It uses both proteomic and genomic approach to quickly identify (i) non-invasive process, (ii) a suitable marker and (iii) a molecular method that could predict allograft rejection much early. It is focusing on renal transplants to investigate biomarkers in urine samples and peripheral bold that would predict or detect acute rejection and stable graft conditions This can provide information regarding prognosis, mRNA expression patterns and markers related to inflammatory cell types and their products in urine sediments and with that, peripheral blood cells can be investigated.

Histopathology & Cytopathology

The Histopathology laboratory provides opinions on all kinds of cases from Gastrointestinal, Cardiovascular, and Orthopedic, Urology, Gyneac and Respiratory Medicine to highly specialized areas are such as Neuropathology, Oncology and Transplant pathology. Frozen section studies for various cases including Neurosurgical are done routinely.

DMLS Phase Contrast Microscope (LIECA)

The instrument comes with fluorescent polarizer, SLR attachments for photography. It also includes Digital Camera attachment for capturing, scanning and feeding live image into the computer / video camera through DC.

The image can also be scanned, projected to any other system anywhere in the world so as to enable Histopathology / Cytology discussion (Telepathology).

Global Hospitals is one of the first hospitals in India to have PET-CT Scan equipment. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a powerful diagnostic test which has made a great impact in the field of diagnosis and treatment of diseases. It can detect and categorize cancers often before they are evident through other tests and also help in acute monitoring of effects of therapy. PET–CT also gives physicians important early information about heart disease and many neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s.

Clinical Applications of PET–CT
Early Detection, staging, assessing treatment response and active management of cancers. PET-CT can also help for planning radiation therapy.

PET-CT is also instrumental in detecting myocardial viability which is useful in decisions about bypass/angioplasty procedures

  • To localize seizure focus prior to surgery
  • Early diagnosis of dementias when Alzheimer's disease is questionable
  • To differentiate Alzheimer’s disease from other dementias
  • To differentiate tumor recurrence from tumor necrosis

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI), is primarily a medical imaging technique most commonly used in radiology to visualize detailed internal structure and limited functions of the body. MRI provides much greater contrast between the different soft tissues of the body than computed tomography (CT) does, making it especially useful in neurological (brain), musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and oncological (cancer) imaging. Unlike CT, it uses no ionizing radiation, but uses a powerful magnetic field to align the nuclear magnetization of (usually) hydrogen atoms in water in the body. Radio frequency (RF) fields are used to systematically alter the alignment of this magnetization, causing the hydrogen nuclei to produce a rotating magnetic field detectable by the scanner. This signal can be manipulated by additional magnetic fields to build up enough information to construct an image of the body.
