TYPHOID FYI: Even after they have been cured of typhoid, some patients might carry this infection in their intestines and gall bladder. In fact, typhoid can be spread by carriers. Carriers are persons who are not ill from the disease but can spread it to others. Thus, food handlers who are carriers can easily spread typhoid when they do not wash their hands before preparing food. “Food handlers should have periodic stool tests done to check for typhoid and prevent the spread of the disease,” advises Dr Suranjit Chatterjee, Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine (MD), Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi.
