Week 22 Pregnancy

GROWTH OF THE BABY: The baby is about 27cm in size, almost the size of a papaya and weighs about 1 pound. The gums of your little one are sprouting tooth buds for toothy grin that would make your heart melt.
Lack of pigment in the iris does not give a pronounced color to the eye. It may be possible that the child develops the eye color only after seeing you and the world around. The essential organs of the baby continue to grow and undertake their distinct function. Having a personal routine, the child is no more erratic. The sleeping pattern is developed by now. However, it would be highly optimistic of you to expect it to be the same as yours. Hence brace yourself for some unexpected churning in the middle of the night.

CHANGES IN MOTHER’S BODY: Every pregnant woman’s belly grows at its own pace. Do not worry if someone randomly comments upon your belly size being too big or small. Your stretch marks become visible by now, as the belly expands to make room for the baby. Stretch marks would leave their signature not only on the belly, but also on thighs, buttocks and breasts.
Apart from the side effects of pregnancy, which you might not particularly like, there are some good ones too:

  • Thicker, lustrous hair
  • Faster growing hair and fingernails
  • Changes in your skin (for better or worse)

DIET & FITNESS REGIME: Since you are in the ‘babymoon’ phase, continue to be on your toes. Some stretching, a little bit of walk, breathing exercises, meditation would do you much good.
Here is a list of power foods that would fortify you and your cherub:

  • Breakfast cereal
  • Broccoli
  • Banana
  • Non fat milk
  • Lean meat
  • Cheese
  • Eggs
  • Oatmeal
  • Green veggies
  • Orange
  • Almonds
  • Soy food
  • Dried fruits

PURPLE HEALTH RECOMMENDS: keeping in mind, the exposure and addiction to technology and gadgets, Dr. Purple recommends you to minimize your exposure to harmful radiations. This is the time to make sure you are not anemic. Hence get your iron level checked. Having cold feet, being scared of the new responsibility, anxiety would be the cornerstone of pregnancy. Having intimate conversations will help the two of you to have a reassured mind and spot free conscience. It will help you maintain your calm and tranquility, which is much needed for the healthy development of a baby. It is also imperative for your mental health balance to drive out the negative vibes that might resonate after hearing all the worldly advice. Keep calm and have a happy pregnancy.
